DOST 8 through No. Samar PSTC Conducts CLCP with Gender Conscientization in Biri, Northern Samar

DOST 8 through the Northern Samar Provincial Science and Technology Center, in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Biri, Northern Samar, conducted Community Life Competence Process with Gender Sensitivity Session and Seminar on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management at Biri Municipal Covered Court, Biri, Northern Samar last September 21-22, 2021. 

The CLCP is an activity that the DOST conducts on site to obtain data on the priority needs of the community. Scientific and technological needs identified by the community include Eco-friendly Septic System, Plastic Styro-densifier, and STARBOOKS. 

The CLCP was conducted by Dr. Evelyn B. Tablante, Head of Training and Consultancy Services of the DOST VIII. Mr. Aivan Lloyd Calonia conducted the Gender Sensitivity Session. Mr. Raymund Xavier C. Naboya presented the programs and services of the DOST. Mr. Lito Araojo served as the resource speaker during the seminar on DRRM. Engr. Anorly R. Narca delivered the closing remarks.

PEDIPO’S Mid-Year Assessment and Planning Workshop Features DOST Programs and Services

The DOST Northern Samar was one of the two provincial government agencies invited by the newly established Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (PEDIPO) to present programs and services during its Mid-Year Assessment and Planning Workshop on September 1-3, 2021 at San Roque, Northern Samar. 

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) representatives, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) owners, and the Association of Northern Samar Producers (ANSP) of which some members are SETUP cooperators participated in the said activity that aimed to assess the accomplishments and shortcomings of the PEDIPO during the first semester of the year. 

Part of the DOST 8’s intervention is to assist in the shelf-life testing analyses of products of 10 MSMEs which will be funded by the PEDIPO. In addition, the DOST will provide nutritional analysis of the respective products of the MSMEs. DOST 8 will also assist in acquiring License to Operate (LTO) required by the Food and Drug Administration. In acquiring this, it also helps expand the market of these products. Setting up plans and activities for the PEDIPO were engaged by the stakeholders and participants for the remaining months of the year. 

The Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) Analysis was also conducted in the activity which helped identify the external factors that could give or hinder the opportunities for the PEDIPO and its stakeholders.
